Under state law, the Attorney General is required to review and issue an opinion regarding a transfer of a not-for-profit hospital to a for-profit hospital. Such a transaction was proposed by St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.
I undertook my statutory responsibility and issued an opinion on March 20, 2017, finding among other things, that the transfer of the hospital was in the best interest of the trust and the public. This transaction resulted in the creation of the $25 million endowment fund called the Lewis-Clark Valley Healthcare Foundation. You can read the relevant documents here.
